Locked

Date Field

By bpines ·
In Word 2000 if I open a saved document the "date field" automatically updates to the current date. How can I stop the automatic updating? It is sometimes crucial to have the original date on the documents.
Thanks for your help.

When the date was inserted a box must have been checked to update automatically. Highlight the date and uncheck the automaticaly update.

the Date field code does that, there is no work around i know of. maybe you could use the Createdate, Savedate or Printdate fields instead?
When this happens to me (i need to change the date in documents) I just don't use a date field at all. I just type the date in as normal text. if you are capturing the date and need to keep it a field i believe you can make a custom field.

In a template I can understand the updating but in a saved document I can't believe that there isn't a fix or work around.

Highlight the field.
Ctrl+F11 locks the field.
It can be turned on again with Ctrl+Shift+F11

To turn the Field to plain text, use Ctrl+Shift +F9

The date automatically updates because it is a Field.

To make the date remain the same you need to remove this field by deleteing it the same way you would any word with in your document (the document may be protected, if so then go to the tools drop down menu and select "unprotect document")

Once the field has been removed then all you have to do is maually type the date you require into the document.

Hope this helps
