DDE Server Window

By wabrahamson ·
Using Outlook 2000, this morning while trying to FORWARD a message, Outlook locked up. Had to Cntrl - ALt - Delete to shut down. Then I got the error message indicating "DDE Server Window not responding". How do I correct this? It has made my Outlook totally useless. Thanks for your help.

Are you using Word as your email editor? If so, search for any temp files (those that start with a tilde "~") and delete them. If the problem persists then try replacing the template with one from a different pc.

As long as the user hasn't done too much updating of their Word toolbar or use much autotext one can just delete with Word closed and it will recreate it.

Also we found that the DDE issue was related to local admin rights. For Office 2003 MS has put users into the debuggers group versus local admin. Putting them back into their local admin group has done wonders.

MS apparently will not help on this issue just give workarounds such as writing script to put users back as local admins.

I solved it --

I too had this problem and traced it to the "Adobe Gamma Loader" loading at startup. I removed this permanently from the startup folder using Advanced Uninstaller (Freeware) and have had bno problems since. All associated programs work normally and without problems. Incidentely the last program I installed prior to this DDE Server problem was Adobe PhotoShop 7.0!
This continues to work normally even after the removal of the Gamma Loader.
Hope this helps anyone who has this ridiculous problem.
