Dead print jobs won’t go away

We occasionally have a problem with print jobs not printing, just hanging. First thing I do is open the print queue and try to delete the print jobs (they won’t go away), Then I shut off the printer and the print server box (the hp netserver type), we then shut down the client machine also. This usually works. Now I have a printer with 3 dead jobs that won’t go away at all. I even shutdown the nt server that serves that printer. No luck. How do I get rid of dead print jobs that refuse to go away?
