Default Printer screws up Access Reports

By Cindy - Extraordinary Brat ·
I have 4 printers mapped (they each have their own ip address) and my default is an HP Mopier Laser. When I use the HP 750 Plotter for anything at all, I have to "design" every single report in my Access 2000 database back to my default printer or they won't open, run, etc..

Default Printer screws up Access Reports

I use earlier versions of Access, but have had a similar problem. In those versions, the default in design mode for reports was to use your default printer. However, you could set it up to use a specific printer. I would recommend looking for a PageSetup or Printer setup in the design of the form and selecting the specific printer you want instead of the default printer.

We have had this problem and we did two things with Access 2000 and it seems to be working so far. First we disabled Name Autocorrect under Tools->Options->General. This is a glitch which has been known to cause margins to change back to their default settings. Also apply SR-1 patch may help out as well. We did both at the same time trying to stop this problem and it seems to have worked.

Cynthia,

It sounds as though you have a rather simple driver problem. Are you HP prinerts newer than the CD you downloaded Access from, and/or have you tried reloading the printer drivers? Also are each of the mapped printers accessable (on a net) from the machine running Access?

Last hope to eliminate an Access / Printer problem: From the Tools menu select "Tools | Options | View (tab)" and deselect Hidden Objects and/or System Objects if they are selected AND "General (tab)" deselect Track name AutoCorrect Info and Perform name AutoCorect". Don't ask me why these interfere but I wasted a Microsoft service call fixing a problem I had???

After doing these things, then "page setup, choose specific printer" for every (dang) report, now they stay put. Thanks Don. I miss Win95, Office 4.2. Limited but reliable.
