Defragment priv.edb

By kosts ·
When I try to defragment the priv.edb (9Gb) file with eseutil utility on the Exchange 5.5 with the redirected temporary drive (network drive with 10,5 Gb ree space for tempdfrg.edb), I suppose that the process stops (when the temp file is about 4 Gbin size) as it is inactive for hours and on the server in the application event log I get hundreds of events with ID 161 from ESE97 with the following description: "((337) ) File system error 112 during IO on database t:\exctmp\tempdfrg.edb. Please restore a database from a previous backup"

First, can I ask why you're defragging the database to begin with? A 9Gb datbase isn't all that large so even if you stand to gain 4Gb or so, IMO it's not worth it. ESEUTIL is not something you run as part of a normal maintanance schedule.

If you're still dead set on doing this, I'd first check the integrity of the database using ESEUTIL. If that checks OK, checkdisk that network drive you've mapped -- maybe it has a problem that hasn't manifested itself until now.

Is there truly 10.5 gb of free space? Defrag requires 110 percent of file size. Technically 9.9 mb. You may be running up against a file size error.
