Deleted Email Account

By m307 ·
I deleted a mail account from my exchange 2000 server and then purged the system. Now my bosses are asking for the emails from that account. I was able to recreate the accunt but was not able to retrieve the emails. Is the some kinda magic that could help me from getting my head cut off?

Yes, a backup of the storage where email recipient resides. It's not magic gest precaution.

Just as ICB said, you could always go back to a backup just prior to the date you deleted the mailbox and recover the messages that way, or, like I ALWAYS do, recover the mailbox contents off the backup CD I create immediately prior deleting the network and email accounts from AD.

You have NO IDEA how many times I've asked bosses if there would ever be a need to refer back to departed user's email correspondence, been told "absolutely not", then a couple of months down the road been approached about doing exactly that.

So.... to save MY butt, and look MIGHTY good in the process, I take the 15 minutes to export the mailbox contents and then burn a CD. Trust me... you'll be glad you did.

Just my 2 cents worth.....
