deleted emails

I received this from a friend, she is quite distressed can anyone helps or have an idea if those emails can be retrieved somehow or is it gone forever?

If anything can be done your suggestions will be very appreciated.

( I am going through some trials. I should remind myself that such is life. It’s never been easy and it never will be. I guess we just have to enjoy the good times as they peak through the clouds. My accidentally deleted 7,000 emails that my son had been saving like a journal since 1997. Email from his ex-wife, his father, pictures, passwords, records. It’s all gone! )
