Deleting Extension less Files In NT4

Hello,

We have an NT4 Server with an oracle dB sitting on it. when trying to clear up enough space to do a proper backup we came across a number of Extension less files in the archived recycle bin. When we tried to delete them, instead of deleting and freeing the space, they created another extension less file. we’ve tried renaming the files to *.txt, but the same thing still happens. Short of re-installing the OS, does anyone have any ideas?
