Deleting Folders

By msfiroudis ·
Hi,
I'm trying to delete a couple of folders from a user's profile:History,Cookies and recent folder's. Is there a way to properly delete these. I deleted INTERNET.EXPLORER 5.0 from the system but it left the above folders. Any help would be appreciated..Thanks in advance...

Before you delete IExplorer program, you have to run it and go to delete those History, Cookies, and TempInternet files. To delete these files, go to Tools=>Internet Options window. In this window, you can delete the Temp files and History. To delete the cookies, click on Settings=>View files. Here you can view and delete the Cookies, etc..
Once the above is done, IExplorer has to be uninstalled from your Control Panel => Add/Remove Program.

If you have already deleted the program, then do a manual deletion of the folders as well as clean out your registry of the IExplorer settings.

hope this helps

Those folders are system folders, i.e. removing the folders themselves can have unpredictable results. If you want to empty them, there are a couple of ways to go about it. I might be able to help more if I knew why you want to do this. Anyway, here's how.

Note: you didn't say what OS you're running, but you posted in the Win9x forum, so that's what we'll assume.

The easiest way (my opinion) is to use Windows Explorer. First, set yourself up for success by going to the menu View .. Options and selecting Show All Files.

Now, you can drill down to the folders you want, click CTRL-A to select all files, and hit the delete button (or Shift-DEL to bypass the recycle bin).

The other way to do this involves several steps:

To clear the Recent folder, right-click the Taskbar, select Properties, select the Start Menu Programs tab, and click the Clear button.

To clear the others, go to Internet Options (via the Internet Explorer menu, the control panel, or right-clicking the desktop Internet Explorer icon and selecting Properties). Under the General tab, you can Delete Files to clear the Temporary Internet Files folder (including cookies), and you can Clear History to clear the History folder.

Good fortune,

Don

As administrator, right click the folders in question, choose properties, choose security, choose take ownership and click on the box marked to filter through to subfolders and subdirectories, click ok. Once you have assumed ownership you can deletethem.
Good luck!
