Deletion of Mailboxes

By a_tank ·
What is the best practice for deleting mailboxes in an Exchange 2003 environment? Currently, we delete the mailbox from active directory; we then let that users department handle the deletion of the rest of the account. Are there advantages\disadvantages to just deleting the account, and letting that process delete the mailbox?
Thanks

I shouldn`t make any difference, if you delete the AD account, the mailbox will be disconnected and then deleted after x days (depending on mailbox keep period) automatically.

If you wish to confirm that the Mailbox has been removed, access you Exchange Server, and open System Manager.

From here follow this Route:
>Servers
Server Name>
>First Storage Group
>Mailbox Store
>Mailboxes
Username>
Then right Click on this mailbox and select "Purge"

this will immediately remove the Mailbox.
