I’ve got a Latitude D820 running Vista Business on a docking station at work. I undock it to work at home. I’ve had this laptop and docking station for over a year and no problem like the following has occurred.
When the laptop is undocked, shutting down works as normal. But when docked, whenever i start the shutdown process, it does it normal stuff, but it seem just before the final point at which the laptop would normally power down completely, the docking station powers down and laptop freezes “on”. I then have to push the power button on the laptop and hold it to force a shut down. Whenever this wacky state occurs, the external Dell flat panel monitor seems to flicker once every 4 seconds or so.
I’ve also come back from a meeting and found the laptop hibernating because the Docking Station has powered down.
To restore power to the docking station, I have to unplug the docking station power cord from the docking station, then plug it back in again. (This is what I normally have to do in the morning now when docking the laptop–power up the docking station, then dock the laptop and start up “normally”).
This seems like some power saving glitch (or setting).
Any clues?
