I know, that SQL 7.0 has designed libraries only for "C" and for " Visul Basic ". Therefore from Delphi it is necessary to be connecting up through ODBC or BDE, that practically one and too.

In Delphi 3.0 you have to use BDE with SQL Links installed. Then add a new alias then pick the MSSQL Driver, a newer version of BDE and SQL Links is more efficient. But if you want no BDE nor ODBC, this cannot be done.

Try upgrading to Delphi4 or 5 because they have ADO Express then you can connect without the BDE nor the ODBC.

I hope this can help. :)
