Deploying MS Office over a network

By GJ2008 ·
Please could you provide me with weblinks (or email me instructions on gurpreet.jalf@terrysmith.co.uk) that contain instructions on how to install MS Office (versions 97-XP) over a network? Am I correct in thinking that this can be done without SMS?

If you're just wanting to install Office on a single machine over a network connection, all you have to do is put the CD in a certain machine and share that machine's CD drive. Access the machine over the network and run the CD from there. You can do it for as many machines as you want, just one at a time.

We used to have Office97 installed in a network configuration, with all workstations running off the server. This method, we found, is only as fast and as reliable as your server and your cable infrastructure. What we do now is create a shared folder on an app server, and give all users read rights to it. We copied the contents of both disks to two subfolders, labeled Disk1 and Disk2. Anytime an installation is needed, you simply go to the network folder and click on setup. It installs just as if the CD were in the local drive. If you want remote software installation, then you WILL have to use SMS.
