Desperate Mouse Situation

By aweaver75 ·
I tried to install a game on my pc that was compatible with xp, required an 800 mhz processor, and 256mb of RAM. I have 2000 pro, a 233mhz processor, and 128mb of RAM. I didnt know that you couldnt put the game on there. The game did install but my mouse wont work. I uninstalled the game thinking this would correct the problem, but it did not. I bought a new USB mouse, and plugged it in, and ran the driver disc that came with the mouse, but the mouse STILL wont work. And even though I have installed this mouse with the driver, under mouse properties, under hardware, nothing is showing up. What do I do? Please only serious answers, and no comments like get a new computer. I can not afford one. Oh and the computer does not have a ps2 port for a mouse, as long as I have had it, the mice have always connected through a usb port.

Have you tried running the setup/repair disc?

Go into Control Panel

Then to system , hardware, device manager, mice and other pointing devices

Do you see devices in there with the ?X next to them?

Select any mouse or pointer devices you see in there. If they look normal, but the device does not work, select 'uninstall' and let windows plug and play reinstall the driver. That typically fixes most problems of this sort.
