DHCP client services will not start

By ParkaPint ·
I have a problem with a NT4 server. the problem is when a client workstation has dhcp option eneabled the client cannot browse the domain, however the DHCp manager shows the client has been leased the IP address but the DHCP client services will not start under services showing the "Error 2140 - internal NT error". Can anyone shed any light on this?

Is this server also a proxy client? If it is, you will need to add the servers IP address to the local address table (typically c:\mspclnt\msplat.txt)
Alternately, you can disable the proxy client.

DHCP client server will not start

by ParkaPint In reply to Proxy?

the NT4 server is not a proxy server and it never has been, this fault kind of developed over night - all of a sudden client pc's with dhcp enabled could not browse the domain. I ve also noticed that DHCP SERVER is not in the list of services, nothing has changed on this server. Its a bummer because there is no evidence of anything wrong in the event viewer nor is there a metabase.* file anywhere on the system but saying that IIS is not/has not been running on the server. Anymore suggestions???

Well we are going through active directory and are trying to resolve the same issue with the DHCP. On our event log we do not get an error. What kind of boxes are you running, Win95, Win2000?

I will let you know what we did to resolve this issue.
