Dial Up Network/Srvr not wrkng both ways

I have a Sony VAIO Laptop running windows ME, and a 300 mghz pentium running windows 98, when I connect the two using an ethernet cable, the network works perfectly, when I use the laptop to dial my computer (using dial up networking/server) I can only access my network from my computer (I can open all of the laptop’s files on my computer,) when I go to my network places on the laptop and click on entire network it has a blank folder. How can I get the network to show up on the laptop, it’s obviously communicating. Help.
