Did Facebook change legislation?

By JamesRL ·

In Ontario, legislation was proposed to limit the number of teenage passengers a teenager with a G2 (second phase of garduated licensing)permit could have in the car. This was part of a larger bill, and was based on statistics which showed a much increased risk of accidents when teens have a number of teen passengers.

But the affected teens started a facebook page, gathered 150,000 signatures on an online petition, and basically mobilised to force the government to back away from that part of the bill.

Interesting precedent.....

I'm astonished

to learn Canadian politicians pay attention to people too young to vote. This side of the border those old enough to vote don't pay enough attention to their politicians.

In percentage terms....

150,000 people out of a population in Ontario of roughly 10 million - 1.5%. But even if they don't all have the right to vote, their parents do.
