Did I miss something

By TheChas ·
Did I miss a change announcement?

I notice in the TQ&A section a number of questions with a "null" and "undefined" for status and points.

When I click on the link for a "null" question, I get an error message.

The error message in IE reads:
"<img src="/i/tr/spacer. An unexpected failure has occured. It has been logged and will be addressed by support."

There is no message with Firefox 1.0.4

Is this part of a new "feature" to deal with the members who do not rate answers and close their questions?

Or, is it just another site update bug?

mmm, "bug"

I would say a "bug" - looks like the field parameter has been changed.

Distinction without a difference?

It's a small teething problem

As the folks at TR rollout out the new T Q & A Site which will be know as "Ask the Chas" they are currently developing a way to hold any outstanding e-mail that will not fit in your mail box because it is over filled and at the same time organize a toll free phone line directly to you. Of course you'll be paying for the privilege of having that toll free phone line as TR budget doesn't stretch to paying for non staff perks.

That is what you get for being the person who answers the most questions with a 43% acceptance rating. I'm just waiting for it to go live as I have a couple of great questions to ask.

Can you provide a link...

to a question where you're seeing this? This isn't something that we've seen before.

Thanks for pointing this out.

All is fine today

The "null" and undefined were on the questions list page.

I checked with both Firefox and IE. The same questions had the same data in the Status and Points columns.

I could not find any today with the error.

If I see it again, I will do a screen capture and a page save to assist in tracking it down.

Anyhow, keep up the good work with the site updates.

What Grasshopper Said

by BFilmFan In reply to Did I miss something

Oh, Master of Da Points, it is as Drew Carey said, "It's all made up and the points don't matter."

I think I could answer questions for like the next 5 years and still be underneath your total!

I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!

It is from persistence that I have achieved my lofty point total.

Yes, I do have a few unique bits of knowledge, and a way of explaining things.

Still, the main method of reaching my total has been persistence.

Right now, it is tougher than it used to be. We have more members answering questions than asking them.

There is hope.
Become a 64 bit system expert and be an early adapter of Longhorn to improve your chances of answering the next big round of new questions.

Of course, since the plan is to get rid of the points system, we will all have to start over on keeping score.
