Difference between DSL Router

By Ammar ??? ·
I found out that by getting a dsl router instead a regular network hub, you can set up a network with only one IP adress. Is this correct?

And, I wanted to know what the difference was between:

-BEFSR11 - EtherFast 1-Port Cable/DSL Router
-BEFSR41 - EtherFast 4-Port Cable/DSL Router

information on these two products can be found at:

The answer is yes. Also, the only difference between the 1 port and the 4 port is the 3 extra ports.
There is an 8 port version available now that has support for Voice-Over-IP and some other features....

To elaborate, the router uses the public ip address and does the translation for private address on the internal side. This allows you to use one ip and have a huge network behind it. If you have a hub you can get the 1 port and just plug it into the available port. If you do not you can get more ports so you would not need an extra hub. I haven't checked the specs, I am going off of the previous answer. One thing to ask is what are you going to do with the network. Some apps do not work well with out aditional configuration.

Everything said is correct...
But I would like to add that the firewall is the biggest selling point of using these routers... The firewall protects the computers in your network from people on the Internet hacking into them...

All 3 routers 1, 4 and 8 port support up to a maximum of 253 users or computers connected to them. Because they also have a built-in DHCP Server, they will give each computer an IP address by setting the TCP/IP properties to - obtain IP Address automatically/use DHPC Server to obtain IP address...
Which one you will need to buy depends on how many computers you will want to connect to the Internet. Routers are usually more expensive per port then hubs, so you can just add a hub when you need more ports instead of buying a whole new router.
