Disk Problems in Linux

By anz ·
i have recently installed Red Hat linux 7.1 on my Celeron 300 machine with 128mb RAM. due to a system lockup i had to restart my system manually. i powered off and then back on. Now it says that some errors are on root filesystem. Run fsck manually (without the -a). when i run fsck it says parallelizing fsck. What do i do? i can't start linux

when you get to the prompt asking you to log on. Make sure you log on using root.
If you have set up your Linux Box using Ext2 File system (Which is should have been the default), run "e2fsck -py <Hdd device - ie /dev/hdXX>"

Make sure the HDD Device that you specify is your System, not the Swap.

If you have any further queries on the command go to http://howto.tucows.com/man/man8/e2fsck.8.html

That should help you out. Once it has gone through the check on your HDD, you should be ableto reboot the PC, just type "reboot" and push enter. and is should come up fine.

Hi,

You can try this command to correct this problem, You can have more info at man fsck.

1.- Startup as root in sigle user mode
2.- Be sure that you have loged as root
3.- Type at command line (Only in a single filesystem)
fsck -p or -r /dev/your_hard_dirive

flag p : is for automatic checkup (safer than -a)
flag r : promt and interactive checkup

Good luck
