DISK SPACE MANAGEMENT ON EXCH 5.5

By isoro ·
I have an exhange server thats running out of disk space.I do not have enough space on my other
drive. I tried cleaning several mail boxes, but still could not see the difference in disk space.
Is there any synchronization thats required to make the change in the private.edb file?

You have to perform an offline compression of the exchange database using the eseutil command to free up disk space.
By removing mailboxes you created free space in the exchange database. However this free space is not returned to the file system.
Look in your Application log (event 1221) to see how much space there is in the database.

It will report something like
'The database has 99 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated. '

You have to perform an OFFLINE defragmentation to free up this space.

Good luck

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE CONSISTENCY ADJUSTER IN EXCHANGE 5.5
AND WILL THIS FIX THE PROBLEM AS WELL.

The consistancy adjuster does NOT solve the problem you presented.

The DS/IS consistency adjuster is used in disaster recovery scenarios where it is not possible to restore the directory to the recovery computer, or where the information store (the Priv.edb or Pub.edb file) is copied to a recovery computer with a name that is different from that of the original server.

The DS/IS consistency adjuster is run to re-create the directory objects for the mailboxes and for public folders that are in the store and not in the directory.

So play fair. If you don't want to lose points, don't ask a question. And if you ask a question make sure you discribe the problem you want to get solved.
