displays wrong number of messages

Outlook 2000 displays that you have x number of new email messages when you really don’t have any. You try to scroll down and nothing there. It almost looks like the number of new messages is the amount of messages in your inbox. this started happening last week. windows 200 stations with full patches. Ran detect and repair. it fixed for 1 day. exchange 2003. any suggestions
