Distributed File System in Win2k

Hi!
I need to replicate files across the Domains in Win2k. Is it possible through DFS...If yes pls let me know how ?...

It is very much possible using DFS.

But the biggest caveat I found with using DFS is when it is being used in conjuction with IIS.

Since IIS locks down the root of the web site, DFS has a hard time replication files inside the web root.

So if you plan on using DFS for replication purposes other then the "file server" style, you may find yourself running into probles if another application like IIS is in play.

While DFS will handle what you're talking about at a 30,000ft view, do understand that it is **** on network connections!!! Especially if you have a lot of replication due to changes of the replicated data. You can manage the replication time frame which lets you do after hours replication, but if you want real time replication across a WAN link then I would say do your testing well in advance!

Other than that the MS white paper on setting up and managing DFS is actually a good read
