Distributing database to Windows 95

By Stan Balcom ·
I have designed a databse in Access 2000. I use ADO to construct record sets and export data to Access 97. I am also testing using the Access Runtime version. After packaging and deploying on several computers the database crashes only on machines running Windows 95. This happens when whenever the ADO recordsets are called. Also Windows 95 machines refuse to recognize the vbCr or vbLf commands when functions try concantinating strings. Can anyone help?

Microsoft's knowledge base includes information about the Y2K issues in Windows 95 and, more specific to your question, about OLE automation.
It appears your Windows 95 users need to apply the Year 2000 update in order to properly handle the ADO components of your program.

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q225/0/53.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=SO&FR=0
for further information.

In addition, it appears your Windows '95 users not have the (correct) Visual Basic for Applications type library (VBE6.dll) properly registered. This can be done programmatically or manually.

It sounds like the problem is with the ADO references. Windows 95 does not ship with a copy of Microsoft Data Access Component (MDAC); Win98 does. Are you sure these Windows 95 machines have MDAC downloaded and installed?

To get this component,try http://www.microsoft.com/data/
and select MDAC. You might find some compatibility issues between version 2.1 and 2.5 althougth both versions are available from this site.

I think you will find this alleviates your ADO problem on the Win95machines.
