DNS and internet registration

By redtail ·
Off on my own and Im setting up a webserver. I have parked my domain for the moment while I set up my hosts. All is well however im confused about registering my name servers. I am supposed to provide a fully qaulified domain name for each of my name servers to Network solutions. presumably ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com. are these just the names i call the servers or did i have to registar them somehow?

You should register these name servers with Network Solutions. They call them HOSTS. Just set them up with the FQDN and IP. Each will receive a NIC handle that you can use in your registration. Also, make sure you have A records for these hosts.

Optimally, make sure you or your ISP update ARIN with the name servers that provide reverse DNS for your block of IP space and those name servers should have reverse lookup files to resolve IP to name.
