DNS for Intranet??

By theword ·
Hi.
Can you give me information on setting up a simple DNS configuration for a small intranet, say 5 or 10 computers.
I am using Redhat 7.1 with the latest bind software,(9.0 I beleive), also I am using apache 1.3, I beleive.
I am a little confused on configuring named and the resolv.conf files. I want to use apache as the webserver.
Thanks for your help....Pat

My best advice is to use the linuxconf GUI, and fill in the blanks. This will generate all of the files you need.

If you insist on building the files by hand, see "DNS and BIND" published by O'Rielly. It is the best reference on DNS.

The /etc/resolv.conf file on each machine tells that individual machine where to go to resolve names. Put in a line with the word "nameserver" followed by a tab, followed by the IP address of the DNS server to use. If you want to point to two DNS servers, use two lines.

Which webserver you use is not relevant to setting up your DNS.

Good luck.
