Do I have to Pay to receive my payment to work as Translator here at TechR?

    by Melanie Arellano López ·

Hello, I just joined Tech Republic’s translation position. But today after I finished a translation that the company requested me via email, they said I had to pay in order to receive my payment. Is this correct? Is this legit? And can somebody else that has translated for Tech Republic confirm it?

but generally speaking, you should not pay to receive any payment. That’s a favorite technique of scams.
What email are you referring to? Are you positive you dealt with TechRepublic or the actual site owner,
      which is TechnologyAdvice?

Hi! Thanks for your response! The Email where I was contacted and adviced I should pay a fee to receive my payment is from techrepublicg@gmail.com. Could this be a real Email from TechRepublic?

That doesn’t look good at all. All regular email-addresses end with techrepublic.com, none end with gmail, com.

Most official email from TechRepublic will be from either a @techrepublic.com or @technologyadvice.com
domain. Phishing emails purport to be from some site, and the email address can look similar to official emails, but look closely…they have added letters after the techrepublic name, and using a gmail domain!
I would advise you to cease all contact with this individual and definitely do not send them money!

I suggest you reach out to the person or group that hired/contracted you to fill that position. Until then, I would be very wary of such a message. This message you received sounds a little “fishy” and I would not expect that you would need to pay anything up front. At the very least, they owe you a reasonable explanation.

Just to mention, if someone from this forum can clarify if this was legitimate it won’t likely be discussed in the open forum and only privately.
