Laptops are designed to be put on a hard surface, like a table or a desk. Not on your lap.
If a gaming laptop becomes too warm, use a cooling pad.

Its not a must but you can if you want.

I agree with this, I believe that it could help, but in most scenarios may not be necessary.

I suppose that it might allow better airflow if you’re using a surface with holes in it. This may direct heat away from the bottom of the laptop.
