I don't use either of those options.

Open Office is malicious, it requires JAVA.

Java malicious?

by Ed Woychowsky In reply to no to both

Okay, let me stand back before asking a follow-up question. :)

What's your opinion of Mono?

yup it is

by Jaqui In reply to Java malicious?

because Java is designed around the "hardware is cheap" model that promotes incompetence in programmers.

mono, as in the open source clone of .NET? never looked at either. I have no interest in using bloatware application frameworks, nor in using applications that use them. after all, they are only bloatware because they use the "hardware is cheap" model.

I don't use it, but

When we raffle off used systems to employees, I install (the complete name) on those systems. People are more inclined to buy chances on a system that's loaded with free legal software than one that has only an OS.

Open Office and Star Office

by Thmiuatga In reply to Do you use Open Office?

I've been using Star Office 7 and just recently started using Open Office which I just installed on my laptop. I had been using MS Works 2000 up until the release of XP and picked up Star Office 7 which I got hooked on after being introduced to it's previous releases in Linux Red Hat 6.5 and Mandrake 7.
I tried the MS package and didn't like it. Totally intrusive, bloated, slow and ties you to only using Outlook Express which is still vulnerable to viruses and worms.
I switch between Star office and Open office.
I read about 5 months ago that Open Office was formally known as Star Office. Sun Microsystems told the linux community that they would no longer bundle it free with linux distributions such as Mandrake 8 (last one to have it). But both packages are great and they are faster than MS word programs.

Besides, Open Office has the best features for the price.

I use...

by jck In reply to Do you use Open Office?

MS Office at work, because it's required.

I use at home, because I don't have $300 for MS Office Professional.

I can do almost anything with than I can with MSOP, and put it into MS's file format.
