Document Control Software

By markw ·
Hi,
I have been looking on the net for software that is suitable for document control. I see there is quite a few that are relevant to programming but I am after something for an office environment regarding procedure documents etc.
Nothing too cumbersome to use just something that allows review dates, document version numbering etc.
We are a Windows based system using Word and Excel predominately.
Open source software would probably do the trick?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Open Source:

Both are web interface document portals. Sharepoint is simpler to setup, yet costs $.

Sharepoint gives you good integration with Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

This system useful for registration of documents, electronic document moving among the staff.
