Documentation for product support

I need to be able to draw up a list of the data that needs to be recorded for:

1. New software product releases
2. New software product versions

so that product support know what a new product does or what changes have been included in a new version, should a problem arise i.e. traceability. The list should not be too heavy as development are often under very tight time pressures and delay in fixing the next bug caused by creating documentation is not acceptable to management (yes I know!)

1) the changelog entries from the developers.
this is the list of changes made since last version

2) if your documentation people don't know what the new project is for, then they cannot create the documentation.
this is why documentation should be started with the project.

then they look at the changelog entries to see what's been done to the app.
