    Domain Controllers “OFFLINE”

    Locked

    by whatme? ·

I have 3 subnets w/W2K DC server at each. Each has global cataloge. The switch quit at site 1 w/ master at it. The other 2 sites lost connectivity to the domain and no one could log on. When the new switch was installed everything seemed Ok again. Now site 1/w master went offline by itself. I restarted it but can’t even get AD working again. The other 2 sites are the same. What happened and how can I fix it?

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS CONNECT TO THE SITE1 AND REINSTALL AD.. RUND DCPROMO. IT SHOULD LIKE THAT SERVER WAS DEMOTED TO A MEMBER SERVER

No.. the master was not demoted UNLESS it can demote itself. I think replication problems ocurred and the it failed… now None of the 3 even has AD accessible and no workstations can log on to the domain. Any further ideas….PLEASE post

try running in AD recovery mode. then retore the active directy databases to one server. then do a force replicate. in win2k there is a setting when restoring AD to make it overwrite anything else.

also check the locator service to make sure they are all on.

this may help a bit. and of course always check for viruses and rogue admins!! 🙂
      hope this helps

We did a restore on DC1.. no good so took it down and took possession on DC2… set credents… figured everything was OK but when we log on as admin and then try to open AD a message comes up again saying that iy can’t find the domain. I connect to the DC..not forest as it won’t connect… and it opens AD..but no one can connect or we can’t close down AD and we can’t replicate… Whata F#$#%$ mess.
        Any other ideas… Please post…
