domain name register

Hi

Our company has a PDC and BDC with several other servers. The problem is that everytime I shut down the BDC, all the workstastions and servers lose connection to each other. So I ran nbstat -c (suggest from news group) and here is the result
Name Type HostAddress
C2 <1C> GROUP 10.1.1.2

C2 is my domain and 10.1.1.2 is my BDC.
So somehow the domain name registered under the BDC not PDC that why we loose network connection when reboot the bdc.Is there a way to fix this problem? By the way WINS, DNS, DHCP is on the PDC
and both PDC and BDC are in the same room.

I have seen this problem some time back, and i had tried to work-around this. I have seen this when PDC is Win2K and BDC is NT4, dont know whts in your case.
In most of the cases, as far as a BDC is alive in a network, most of the authentication isdone by BDC so as not to bother the PDC for this. Hence, when your BDC goes down, users get disconnected, searching for the BDC.
What you can try doing is, ShutDown your network (by this I mean All your servers & desktops); Boot the PDC first, keepthe BDC down for the moment, and try starting & authenticating a few desktops. They might take some time, but should be able to get onto the network. Let the BDC then boot-up. Now again switch-on some more clients.
Now, try shutting down the BDC asyou usually do, see if the clients are still loosing the connections.
This is just a workaround, which worked for me, I still dont know the cause of this,. but hope this helps in someways to you too.
Cheers.

it is not possible to shutdown 70 computers and restart. Both of my PDC and BDC are Win NT 4.0 sp6a. I don't think it is possible to have PDC as win2k and BDC as NT 4.0

Are you sure that the BDC is still the BDC and hasn't somehow been promoted to PDC? When you look in Server Manager, which one shows as the PDC?
