My user is running Windows NT Server in the Enterprise. Now you know when you double click on C: in Windows Explorer it should open, well this one doesn’t. Instead double clicking on C: executes a command prompt window and some weird stuff happens. In the command prompt screen the cursor jumps all over the window, you cannot enter text, and when trying to click on the X to close the window it seems like it tries to execute an application and up pops Dr. Watson and then you have to end task etc.Now right clicking C: and clicking on open does open Windows explorer and right clicking on start and clicking on explore also opens Windows Explorer and everything will work fine this way. Oh one other thing, the C: “ICON” should be a “COMPUTER” right, like all your local drives, but this icon is like a document icon of some sort. I’m thinking that the C: has been associated to some executable of some sort. Now how can someone do this is still a mystery to me. I can understand this happening to a “FILE” but a “DRIVE” seems very strange to me. My next guess is that this seems to be the work of a virus.
I’ve done some troubleshooting like trying to change the icon back to a computer, by creating a shortcut to the C: and then right clicking on the shortcut icon and clicking on properties, clicking on change icon to see which file is the icon file, which is “SHELL32.DLL” but this only can work for the shortcut icon not ther C:.
I hope this is not too confusing. But your help is surely appreciated.
