by GuruOfDos In reply to DRIVER FOR OPL3-SAX SOUND ...

Interesting question....obviously posted by someone stuffed head first into a wet sleeping bag and being hit repeatedly with pick-axe handles.

Mind you, this fate is well deserved by anyone using this sound card....especially as it is an ISA cardor built in chipset. I have drivers for this card, but it is natively supported under Windows form 98 onwards.

You can vastly improve these cards by some careful upgrading of components on the card, and cutting a few tracks on the power supply rails and adding some additional smoothing and filtering components. I had a genuine Yamaha SA-X card and managed to improve the S/N ratio by 15dB by changing all the passives on the board for better quality ones.

If you really want quality from a soundcard, you still have to go a very long way to beat an original Soundblaster AWE32, with all the original resistors removed, replaced with 0.1% Hi-Stab metal film resistors and swapping all the capacitors for audio grade low leakage electrolytics.
