driver scan/install program needed

By dojharris ·
Hi we run a free pc repair service at our local community center. This is run once a week for 3 hours, this not given us a lot of time to help people with their computer. Our biggest trouble is finding correct drivers for each computer that needs them installed or updated. We use programs to scan and indentify motherboards but this doest always help us. Also we still have to go looking for the drivers and sometimes we get the wrong one and have to look again. This takes a lot of time and we hope to reduce this time. We are looking for a driver?s software package that will scan and update drivers for us. I have been reading about them and not sure. I was also thinking we may need for than one of these driver scan packages. Something like this we are looking for can anyone help or know if these work ok. Free packages would be good but we do have money to spend. We need it for XP.
Thanks for your time doj

OK you have a problem here

Things like Driver Detective which you pointed to work OK if you have the drivers installed but are useless for devices without Drivers Installed.

It really depends here on what you need to do something like Unknown Device Identifier may be helpful but it just as well may cause more confusion than it saves.

Generally speaking if the correct driver is installed things work OK even if it is an Older Driver that may benefit from updating. When you hit real problems is when the wrong driver is installed you can get things not working and the software will tell you that you need new versions of this driver which will not help at all.

Belarc Adviser is also useful if you have the correct type of driver installed but will tell you nothing about drivers for devices that are not installed as this gets it's information from the Registry it directly from the hardware.
