Dual Monitor Capability

Hello everyone, I am trying to figure out why the dual display option in my Win 2000 Pro. laptop is not available. I want to be able to work with two screens, one in the laptop and another on the external monitor. The Win 2000 Pro help takes me to Settings in the Display menu but the next steps don’t correspond to what I see on the screen. I appreciate your help.
