Dual usage of Outlook and web-based mail

By ric111 ·
I did a reformat and reinstall on a client's computer, a Gateway Essentials 550, P3-550, 128 MB, etc. She previously was set up to load email across a DSL line to both pacbell.net (a Yahoo! isp) and Outlook. I don't know much about Outlook. I have the email coming to pacbell.net ok, but have not been able to configure Outlook properly. Am setting it up with her name, her email account name, etc., and showing mail.yahoo.com as incoming POP3 and smtp.yahoo.com as outgoing. These parameters are allowing neither outgoing nor incoming. I know I've got it wrong, but I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions?

I do not think that yahoo is a pop3 account. it is a HTML webbased account. It should configure the account corrletly if you change it from a pop3 to a HTML. Delete the account you have set up and start the wizard again and this time choose HTML instead of pop3. This only works in OutLook 2002 and above. It will not work in OutLook 2000.

Thanks for that response. I should have mentioned that I did not think the Yahoo was a Pop3 either. The only choices Outlook gave me were pop3 and MAP; it did not give me the html choice. As for not working in Outlook 2000, all I know is that it was working that way for her before I reformatted the hard drive, so there has to be some way of doing it, but I don't know what it is.

Outlook 2002 does HTTP e-mail, Outlook 2002 does not. So, I figure either she was using Outlook 2002 before and now is using Outlook 2000, or more likely WAS using Yahoo POP3. Yahoo switched to a fee-based POP3 e-mail service a few months ago.
