DVD drives show up as CD drives when DVD discs are in them.

By OnTheRopes ·
I have two DVD drives an NEC DVD+/-RW ND3530A and an HP DVD Writer 640c.
Both drives appear as DVD drives in Windows Explorer until you put a DVD disc in them when they turn into/show up as CD-ROM drives.

I've "uninstalled" them using Device Manager, scanned for hardware changes and ?reinstalled? them but they still appear as CD-ROM drives though both drives have DVD-R discs in them.

How do I regain the full function of the DVD drives?

No resolution yet. Using Nero 7 I can burn data DVD's but I can't use Windows Explorer to do it. Belarc Advisor shows both DVD drives as CD-ROM drives.

XP does not support burning DVD's through explorer. You will have to use third party software to burn DVD's. It sounds like you are doing that anyway. It does support burning CD's.

May help you.

SP3 dosn't include DVD burning either. They should have included it.

not really it has a few bugs. I must admit I really expected a lot more. There hasn't been any updates for ages.
