DVD freezes after 1:20 hr of playback

By filosetm ·
Using WinXP, PowerDVD player, the DVD playback starts stopping and playing until complete freeze occurs (about 1:40 hrs into playback).
Using Original DVD as well as copies (copies more prone to the freeze)

Using AMD 260XP, GA-7VAXP MB (Updated AGP drvrs and Bios),ATI AIW 8500 Radeon 128MB(updated Drvrs.,
EPO DVD-rom player. 1Gb of Corsair RAM 400mhz.

DOne the DMA enable- but no improvement.

I ahve tried tech support on all the MB, ATI etc, sites without any success.

HAs anyone encountered this problem? any way around it?

Sounds like a memory leak or related issue.

How much free hard drive space do you have?

And, what are your page file settings?

While there can be a slight performance increase from using a fixed, small, or no page file, I find that limiting the page file can cause system problems.
I opt for stability and give Windows lots of page file space to play with.

I would also check your AGP aperture setting in BIOS setup.
With your system, I would set the AGP aperture to between 256MB and 512MB.

If you have a plug in card in the PCI slot next to your graphics card, moving it could also improve video performance.

It also would not hurt to check for mal-ware using AdAware or SpyBot.

I have had this problem in a couple of customers machines.

One was a defective player. (heat related)
The other was corrected by a system reload, at tech supports recommendation. Something about registery bloat. Solved the problem though.

Good suggestion but I did not try it since I found the solution above.

If the above suggestions do not solve the problem, it may either be a problem with your power supply or temporary files. You can download a trial copy of Window Washer from Webroot, to see if that fixes the problem, before spending any money.

Good luck.

I had the problem both with original and copies. I relize now that copies did not work as well becouse of all the adware taking over as much os 93% of my CPU usage.

Also don't discount it being the DVD itself ( even new ones ).

Is it only the 1 DVD or many or all originals.

Does it play ok in a normal DVD Player or freeze as well.

If you Burn DVD's make sure you use high quality. Pay the extra dollar --- the best are

Ritek, Verbatim, TDK
