Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus!

By neilb@uk ·
Or, for those of you not well versed in Welsh, Happy St. David's Day.

Today, those of us of Welsh ancestry sport a daffodil or a leek (yep, a large green vegetable) in our lapels. The largest leek that I've seen today must have been at least a pound weight. No mistaking us, today!

Saint David was a teetotaller and has the alternative title of 'Dewi Ddyfrwr' - David the water drinker - so I'm not completely happy with him as a patron saint but it wasn't my choice.

Neil

and a happy daffy day to you too!

by gadgetgirl In reply to Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus!

Did you really want us all to know about the size of your leek?!

Hmm?!

Despite St. David being a teetotaller, I assume you won't be one tonight??

(or will you just stay in and watch the England friendly?.....be impressed, Neil, this is me actually knowing that there's a footy match on tonite!! )

Wednesday is Curry Night

by neilb@uk In reply to and a happy daffy day to ...

I suspect that I may switch to the Anglo-Saxon 31.25% of my ancestry and have a good old English Vindaloo takeaway and some cold lager while watching the footy...

(especially after the serious kicking that Welsh Rugby got on Sunday)

to you and all the Welsh. Allthough I'm not sure if that can be with him being a waterdrinking patron. lol
Nevertheless have one on me.

This always reminds me of Henry V

by Mickster269 In reply to Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus!

Or, I should say, the Kenneth Branagh movie version of the Shakespeare play.

Right after the battle at Agincourt, there is a great speech about Henry's Welsh roots.

In honour of St. Davids Day and in support of Neil....................

by sleepin'dawg In reply to Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus!

Everybody stop what you're doing and go take a leak

See it's not the polar ice caps melting that is going to raise the water levels in the oceans; it's all those Welsh daffys taking a leak and flushing at the same time.LOL :^O

Kidding aside, a very Happy St.David's Day to you and yours. One thing about today, after hearing St.David was teatotal, I will be eternally grateful that the Scots chose St.Andrew, who was known to take a nip or three, as their patron saint, plus, if that weren't enough, we also have Bobby Burns day and he was a guy well known for knocking them back. When our days roll around, we will be more than happy to let you help us out, celebrating.

Funny coincidence, tonight at dinner, I partook of soupe au poireaux and there was creamed leek as the vegetable. I actually like leek, the vegetable but lets face it nothing gives relief like taking a leak.

Cheers Neil!!! (Visualize me taking a sip of scotch)

At least St. David really existed

unlike good old St. George, the patron saint of the other bit of my patchwork heritage.

Thank you Dawg. Enjoy!

somewhat more important...

by john.a.wills In reply to Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus!

is that today is Ash Wednesday, which has enough clout to knock the Saint David's Day readings and prayers off the calendar.

What happens

by Montgomery Gator In reply to somewhat more important.. ...

When St. Patrick's day falls on Ash Wednesday? Now there are two competing holidays. One involves carousing and drinking, and the other involves penitance and abstinence.

Anyway, good thing I am Anglican. Lent is more of an optional thing with us. :-)

For you, yes. For others, no

And, you sanctimonious git, why can't people have both?

There is something you can give up for Lent.

by sleepin'dawg In reply to For you, yes. For others, ...

All your New Year's Resolutions. Lent is the only reason to make any in the first place.

Lent??? What??? I don't recall having lent anything to anybody.

Enjoy your St.Daffy's day Neil in spite of Lent and all the sanctimonious gits that try to rain on your parade. There is/was a parade, wasn't there??? You will have to make allowances for us practicing pagans.
