E-mail and attachment

I am running Outlook 2000 and Win98 on some clients PC, Exchange5.5 on the server side.

One of my users recently had a problem...when saving the attachments to a "network" directory, he is gettign an erro message "A FILE NAME IS NOT VALID", although the attachments are saved but they are showing 0K in size.

Is there a way to get aroud this problem...and if there is ..please HELP

I've run into this problem myself, and hopefully my experience will help you out.

In my case, the problem occurred because the user was attempting to save the attachment into a sub-folder buried about 6 sub-folders deep into a main shared directory. Outlook couldn't handle the complexity of the attachment name & sub-folder naming structure, so it just returned the error. If the user just tried to save the file into the main share, the issue never cropped up.

So...... my advice is to try save the attachment into a simple network share and see what happens. If THAt doesn't work, try saving to the desktop and then manually moving the file to the share using Windows Explorer.

Thanks very much Shaun for your help...

In addition, I had also found a fix for this problem (from Microsoft) and thought you might be interested. Apply the latest "MSOffice" service packs...assuming you are running Office2000. after you apply the service packs, the problem will be fixed, I had tried it myself....
