We have a new Antivirus solution that does not get along with the NT 3.51 PDC. I have a new NT40 server ready to go, but when I try to promote it from the PDC, I get an ‘access denied’ error. Microsoft article Q197488 sez hey, that’s what they do. Upgrade to 4.0 SP 4. Okay, but I wanted to keep the resources (printers and shared directories) available to users w/o reloading each and every driver. Can I dumb-down the SP on the new server until it is promoted? Is there a dirty way to make the new one PDC without the process, and likewise make the old war-horse a backup? Should I suck it up and spend the day finding drivers to replace the old 3.51 printer drivers?
