Easy Question from a New Linux User

By tobrahs ·
I just installed RedHat 8.0 on a new workstation for testing. I installed directly from CD and during the post-installation portion I did not select the GUI configuration. Now I can only boot into text mode. How do I change to GUI mode?

startx launches X windows.

You can find very helpful manuals online here:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-8.0-Manual/

To change your X configuration after you have completed the installation, use the X Configuration Tool. Login as root, and type the redhat-config-xfree86 command in a shell prompt to launch the X Configuration Tool. from there follow thre prompts to enter details about your system and video card. There is also good help documentation about the X Configuration tool which you may want to look over if it gives you any trouble.

Good luck!
