I am currently running 95, and am switching to windows NT 4.0 WKSTN. what would be the fastest way to do this, if i have 20 or so computers? i don't want to go to each machine with the CD, how do i run a network install if the machines are FDISKed?
thanks for your answers

the fastest way to rollout nt is using a product like ghost.

http://www.ghost.com/sabu/ghost/indexB.html

boot the pc's off a network boot floppy disk and run ghost to download your nt image.

note: this is easiest when all your hardware is the same.

It is possible to install WKSTN while 95 is running, i.e. put the WKSTN install files in a shared directory on the server and run the install from the 95 machine with admin privileges. After WKSTN is installed, you can delete the \WINDOWS directory. For example, on the 95 box:

1. Map the Z: drive to the shared folder where the WKSTN install files (contents of i386) are at.

2. Open a dos prompt, go to the Z: drive, and type: winnt /s:Z: /t:C: /x /b

Furthermore, you can mess with the unattended mode of install, but it is very complicated. I've tried it and is not worth the time for 20 machines.

Hope this helps.

Sie the machines are already fdisk'd your easiest option will be to creat a boot disk for the machines, assuming they ar all similar of course. use nt servers Network Client Administrator program to creat the disks. The in a bacth file off of the boot disk run winnt.exe from a network share, using an unattend.txt file and a Uniqueness Database file you will be able to autmate the distributions. all you will have to do is visit eahc WS with a boot disk and let it do its thing. the proper syntax for an unattended install is this:
winnt /s:<installation share> /u:<unattend.txt file> /udf:<machine name in udf file>,<udf file>

the UDF file will contain IP machine name and other machine specific information. the unattend .txt file will contain answers to the questions in the winnt setup. uset SETUPMGR on the winnt cd to create and unattend.txt file fairly easily. hope this helps. --jas
