Editing the separator page (pcl.sep)

By hpoppe ·
I'm wondering how I can edit the separator page pcl.sep on a Windows 2000 (print) Server to include a string of text. I'd like it to say: "Please discard of this paper properly, don't leave it by the printer.". This text should show up on all users print jobs.
How can I edit the pcl.sep to do this? How can I make the text come out in bold lettering and 14 points letter size?

Editing the separator page (pcl.sep)

You configure a separator page for each printer. If you want to assign a separator page for all of the printers on a computer, you must repeat the steps in this section for each printer. To configure a separator page:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
Right-click the printer for which you want to configure a separator page, and then click Properties.
In the advanced dialog box, click Separator Page.
In the Separator Page dialog box, click Browse. In the next Separator Page dialog box, double-click the separator page file that you want to assign to this printer. Note that Windows NT 4.0 includes three separator page files:
Pcl.sep: This file switches a dual-language printing device to PCL printing, and prints a separator page at the beginning of each print job.
Pscript.sep: This file switches a dual-language printing device to PostScript printing, but does not print a separator page at the beginning of each print job.
Sysprint.sep: This file switches a dual-language printing device to PostScript printing, and prints a separator page at the beginning of each print job.
In the Separator Page dialog box, click OK.
In the Printer_name Properties dialog box, click OK.

all you have to do then is edit your pcl.sep file to have the desired message on it by searching for it and typing in your message.
Hope this helps

This question was about how to edit the .pcl file, not how to find it. Thanx anyway.

Click->Start-Settings,and choose Printers,Right-click the printer and choose Properties. The Printer dialog box will open.
The tabs to select and change each function will be in Properties
If you would like to use an alternate page, like the one that may be included in the printers software, slick the browse button to locate a seperator file.Choose the seperator file and click OK
