    email drama

    I am having a problem with the company’s email. We are able to recieve email from an outside source. But we can not send outgoing email to an outside source. Internally we can recieve as well as send. But if sending email outside of the company we are getting a reply of ‘undeliverable mail’. What could be the problem. Please help…

      How are you delivering your outoing mail? Your ISP, Exchange Server, an SMTP server? Problem could be your ISP requires authenticated outgoing SMTP, many are changing over to prevent spam, some send emails but are not delivered to those in the know. Also your IP address in many cases needs to show up in an MX record somewhere or other smtp gateways

      Your email server could be having a bad DNS day. Try flushing the DNS and reloading (in W2K can be done with command lines ipconfig /dnsflush and then run ipconfig /registerdns) You might also want to change DNS servers the email server is looking at.

      good suggestions, all. you might also want to check your router/firewall config. your running config might be blocking the outgoing traffic on that port. check your outgoing policies to see if they are blocking ports 110 or 25.

      You didn’t mention what you are using for email? Domino, Exchange, etc…

      It appears that basically your mail doesn’t know where to go. If you have an IP # entered somewhere, it may be wrong, or the IP it points to may be down. Please send more details if you like via email.

      I am using an smtp server.
