Emailing an Access database

By TheRook ·
I sent an Access db in Outlook to someone who needed it. They said they couldn't open it, that they're OS (MS XP) blocked access to a potentially unsafe attachment. Now they want me to change the "file format" of the DB to "txt, saying that once received, they would convert it to an mdb. I think they just need to be given rights to open it on their end. Pls advise. Thanks.

The blocked attachments can be modified:

But this can also be restricted at the exchange level. Changing the extension is a backdoor way of defeating the security settings.

It's easy to hide macros in access files and indeed it will be blocked by Outlook if not at the corporate level.

Use the backdoor as suggested above :)

Is the other person using Outlook or Outlook Express.

If they are using Outlook Express, select Tools, Options - Security and then untick 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus'.

Do it the easy way!

Zip the access database.

The person at the other end can just unzip the file.

This way there are no conversions or exporting needed.
