emails deleting in Outlook 2000

My boss set up some rules in Outlook 2000 to move emails sent by certain people to specific folders. Upon running these rules he watched as the emails mysteriously disappeared! They did not go into the deleted items folder, they did not go into any other folder that exists. They just disappeared. Has anyone seen this before? A virus maybe?? Please help solve this mystery.
