Enable Gigabit Interfaces on Cisco ASA5510-SEC-BUN-K9

By dashley ·
All--

According to the product description on Cisco's site ( http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6032/ps6094/ps6120/product_data_sheet0900aecd802930c5.html ) The ASA5510 with the security plus license has two gigabit interfaces and three fast ethernet interfaces (including the management interface). When I view the interfaces on this device though I only see the 5 fast ethernet interfaces. Am I doing something wrong or is the site incorrect?

Did you install Gig interfaces

I believe you are interpreting the page incorrectly. You are reading table 7. Table 7 is a characteristics listing. If you read Table 13, you will see that by default, the ASA5510-SEC-BUN-K9 bundle comes with 5 fast ethernet interfaces. YOu may be able to install up to two Gig interfaces, but that's not included in the bundle.

Enabling Gigabit Interfaces on ASA5510

by victor In reply to Enable Gigabit Interfaces ...

Check out this page:
http://www.nettiki.com/?q=node/215

It mentions that the interface names remain the same for Ethernet0/0 and Ethernet0/1, but you can use the speed command to set it to 1000Mbps. I just applied the Security Plus License on our brand new ASA 5510 so I will try it out.

Depends on IOS version

by rocky In reply to Enable Gigabit Interfaces ...

I ran into this myself. Gigabit was introduced in 7.3(2). But it was left out of 8.0(2).

I cannot speak for 8.0(3) - but I know it works as stated in 8.0(4).

That is with a Security Plus licence you can configure "speed 1000" on e0/0 and e0/1 (it will autodetect it as well).
